|In the midst of the Great Depression, a local Reserve, La., electrician had an idea that sparked the growth of St. John the Baptist Parish's first telephone company. Daniel Madere erected a single telephone pole and a few wires in front of his home. Then he put his wife, Inez, on the switchboard, and in 1935, St. John Parish had its first local telephone service provider, Reserve Telephone Company.
What began with just 15 customers on a single dirt road in Reserve has grown to serve more than 8,000 customers. Now, we're Reserve Telecommunications, one of the first, full-service, telecommunications providers in the nation with a fiber optic/coaxial network capable of delivering telephone, cable television and high speed internet services in the parish.
In 1998, the Madere family sold the business to a NY investment group and they expanded into LaPlace - offering Cable TV and Internet services.
August 2010, we purchased the Charter system in St. James Parish which services the unincorporated areas of Paulina, Convent and Hester. We offer Cable TV and High Speed Internet and Telephone.
